Working on the final scene
Sept 11, 2011, where the speeches are the same as on Lexington Green in 2002, and the dead are mourned by a flyover of 4 fighter jets, screaming perilously close to the skyscrapers of downtown San Diego. What to make of this?
This first person documentary is a project that I began in 2002, when I was 23 years old (!). It had a very helpful preview screening at the Athens International Film Festival in 2010, and is now poised to enter the world as a finished film. Chronicling the ten years after the 9/11 attacks from a fresh angle, About Face! aims to provide a narrative about historical thinking that troubles dominant stories about sacrifice, courage, and righteous retribution. Currently a 92 minute fine cut, I am raising funds to pay for a score, sound mix, online, and festival submissions. The film will be completed in December of 2011.
